We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 So, the angels - all of them - fell down in prostration, 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 He answered, “It does not befit me to prostrate myself to a human whom You have created from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
