So when the apostles came to Lut's followers, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They replied, "Did we not forbid you to bring anyone to your house?" 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 An explosion struck them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely in that are signs for such as mark; 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers. 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
