AND, [likewise,] indeed, the people of Al-Hijr gave the lie to [Our] message-bearers: 80 for We did vouchsafe them Our messages, but they obstinately turned their backs upon them 81 And they used to carve dwellings in the hills, without fear. 82 But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour, 83 All that they had acquired was of no avail to them. 84 We did not create the heavens and the earth, and what is between them except in truth. The Hour is sure to come, therefore, forgive them with a gracious pardon. 85 For verily it is thy Lord who is the Master-Creator, knowing all things. 86 And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an. 87 Strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoin, and be not grieved on their account, and lower thy wing (in tenderness) for the believers. 88 and say, 'Surely, I am the manifest warner.' 89 As We have sent down on the dividers, (Quraish pagans or Jews and Christians). 90 Those who broke the Word of Allah into several parts. (Those who broke the Torah / Bible or changed its text – or those who called the Qur’an a fabrication / poetry.) 91 By your Lord, We will question them all 92 For that which they have been working. 93 Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists. 94 Truly! We will suffice you against the scoffers. 95 Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know. 96 And assuredly We know that thou straitenest thy breast by that which they say. 97 But you should glorify your Lord with praises, and be among those who bow in submission; 98 And keep worshipping your Lord, till death* comes to you. (* The certainty.) 99
