They ask thee concerning the Spirit (of inspiration). Say: "The Spirit (cometh) by command of my Lord: of knowledge it is only a little that is communicated to you, (O men!)" 85 If We pleased We could take away that which We have revealed to you then you should find none to guard you against Us, 86 But on account of mercy from your Lord-- surely His grace to you is abundant. 87 Say, "If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants." 88 And We have explained to man, in this Qur'an, every kind of similitude: yet the greater part of men refuse (to receive it) except with ingratitude! 89 They say: 'We will not believe in you until you make a spring gush from the earth for us, 90 Or there be for thee a garden of date-palms and wine, and thou causest in the midst thereof rivers to gush forth. 91 Or, let chunks of sky fall over us, as you assert (you will); or, bring God and the angels as a surety; 92 Or you have a house of gold or you ascend into the sky. And [even then], we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read." Say, "Exalted is my Lord! Was I ever but a human messenger?" 93
