Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
