And make mention (O Muhammad) in the Scripture of Abraham. Lo! he was a saint, a prophet. 41 who asked his father, "Father, why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor help you at all? 42 Father, a knowledge that has not reached you has come to me. So follow me that I may guide you to a Straight Way. 43 Father! Do not worship Satan -- for, truly, Satan is a rebel against the Most Gracious One! 44 Father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Compassionate Lord might strike you and you may end up as one of Satan's companions?" 45 (The father) replied: "Dost thou hate my gods, O Abraham? If thou forbear not, I will indeed stone thee: Now get away from me for a good long while!" 46 He said: Peace be unto thee! I shall ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee. Lo! He was ever gracious unto me. 47 "And I shall remain separated from you and all that you worship other than Allah and shall worship my Lord; possibly, by worshipping my Lord, I will not be amongst the unfortunate.” 48 Thus, when he left them and the (idols) they worshipped, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and made each of them a prophet, 49 We granted them Our blessing and high renown. 50
