Aaron had told them before, "My people, you are deceived by the calf. Your Lord is the Beneficent God. Follow me and obey my orders". 90 They had said: "We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us." 91 [Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray; 92 That thou followedst me not! Hast thou disobeyed my command? 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Moses said, "What was the matter with you, Samiri?" 95 (Samiri) said: "I saw what they saw not, so I took a handful (of dust) from the hoof print of the messenger [Jibrael's (Gabriel) horse] and threw it [into the fire in which were put the ornaments of the Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, or into the calf]. Thus my inner-self suggested to me." 96 Moses said, "Begone! It shall be your lot to say throughout your life, "Do not touch me," and you will be faced with a fate from which there will be no escape. Now look at your deity to which you have become so devoted: we shall burn it up, and then scatter it into the sea. 97 Your only deity is God - He save whom there is no deity, [and who] embraces all things within His knowledge!" 98 So We relate to thee stories of what has gone before, and We have given thee a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever disregards (the Quran) will be heavily burdened with sin on the Day of Judgment 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. 102 They shall whisper among themselves: "You stayed on the earth barely ten days." 103 We know well what they will say when the most upright among them will say: "You did not tarry more than a day." 104
