۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 when he said to his father and his people, 'What are these statues unto which you are cleaving?' 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
