۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Woe to you for what you worship instead of God. Have you no understanding?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
