۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
