۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
