And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost. 34 Doth he promise you that you, when ye are dead and have become dust and bones, will (again) be brought forth? 35 ۞ “How remote, (really) how remote is the promise you are given!” 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said: my Lord! vindicate for they belie me. 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Whenever a Messenger came to his people they rejected him, calling him a liar. Thereupon, We made each people to follow the other (to its doom), reducing them to mere tales (of the past). Scourged be the people who do not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
