O apostles! eat of the good things and do good; surely I know what you do. 51 And verily this religion of yours is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 Then they cut their affair among them in regard to the Scriptures; each band in that which is with them rejoicing. 53 So leave them in their error for a time. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We hasten in good works for them? No, they are not aware. 56 Those who tremble with fear of their Lord; 57 who believe in the verses of their Lord; 58 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord, 59 And those who give what they give and their hearts fear for they have to return to their Lord. 60 to God, these are the ones who really compete with each other in virtuous deeds and are the foremost ones in the task. 61 We charge no soul with more than it can bear. We have a record which clearly shows the truth and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are in overwhelming ignorance with respect to it and they have besides this other deeds which they do. 63 But when We seize with the punishment those of them that live in ease, they groan. 64 Do not cry out for help this day, for surely you shall not be helped by Us. 65 My signs were recited to you, but upon your heels you withdrew, 66 [and,] impelled by your arrogance, you would talk senselessly far into the night." 67 Have they not pondered the saying, or came there upon them that which came not upon their fathers, the ancients? 68 Or did they not recognise their apostle, and rejected him? 69 Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. 70 And had the Truth followed their desires, then indeed the heavens and the earth and all those who are in them would be destroyed; in fact We brought to them a thing in which lay their repute, so they are turned away from their own repute. 71 (Do they disbelieve because) you asked them for payment? The reward that you will receive from your Lord is the best. He is the best Provider. 72 But verily thou callest them to the Straight Way; 73 And lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path. 74 ۞ If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion. 75 We had seized them with the punishment, but they did not bow before their Lord nor turned to Him in humility, 76 So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair. 77
