(Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician, 34 “He wishes to expel you out of your land by his magic; so what is your advice?” 35 They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather 36 Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard. 37 And so the sorcerers were assembled at a set time on a certain day, 38 And the people were also asked to assemble. 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?" 41 He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me). 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 Then they cast their cords and their staves, and said: by the might of Fir'awn, verily we! we shall be the winners. 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 Then the magicians fell prostrating in adoration, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 The Pharaoh said, "You believed without my permission? He seems to be your chief who has taught you magic. But you will soon know (the result of what you have done). I shall certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you all together." 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
