Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 "Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound heart." 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 no caring friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
