And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said, "In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those whom you used to worship?" 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
