And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
