And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 no loyal friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
