(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
