The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
