The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
