The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
