(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
