Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
