(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
