The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
