The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Do you think you will be left secure here 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
