The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
