Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
