The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
