Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 Within gardens and springs 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
