Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 brought down by the Faithful Spirit 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned men of the Israelites know it? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Thus have We caused this (Admonition) to penetrate the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod). 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 for a reminder, and We never harmed. 209 Not by the Satans has it been brought down; 210 It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power, 211 Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed. 212 So do not call any other god beside Allah lest you become of those who will be punished, 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 And lower thy wing to the Believers who follow thee. 215 If they do not obey you, tell them: "I am not responsible for what you do." 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the satans descend? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 The devils convey upon them what they heard, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Seest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley?- 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
