The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, 4 In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They know the outward of this world's life, but of the hereafter they are absolutely heedless. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
