۞ But We shall say, "Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In gardens of delight, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
