۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 What then, shall we not die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
