And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy; 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 What though they would say, 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 Stay away from them for a while 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
