And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah) 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So you and your deities 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 and we glorify God". 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
