And recall what time Ibrahim said unto his father and his people: verily I am quit of that which ye worship. 26 except the One Who created me; and, behold, it is He Who will direct me to the Right Way.” 27 And Ibrahim kept this declaration among his progeny, in order that they may desist. 28 Nay! I gave them and their fathers to enjoy until there came to them the truth and an Apostle making manifest (the truth). 29 And when the Truth came to them they said: “This is just sorcery and we reject it.” 30 And they said, "Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?" 31 Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord? It is We who distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and raise some of them above others in rank, so that they may take one another into service; and the mercy of your Lord is better than [the wealth] which they amass. 32 If it were not that all mankind might have become one community [of disbelievers], We could have given all those who deny the Lord of Mercy, houses with roofs of silver, silver staircases to ascend, 33 And for their houses, doors (of silver), and thrones (of silver) on which they could recline, 34 And ornament of gold. And yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world; and the Hereafter with thy Lord is for the Godfearing. 35
