And whoever is averse to the Remembrance of the Most Gracious, We appoint a devil upon him, who stays with him. 36 And verily they hinder them from the way, whilst they deem that they are rightly guided. 37 When he returns to us, he will say (to satan), "Would that there had been as long a distance between me and you as that between the East and West. What a terrible companion you have been". 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error? 40 Even if We take you away, We shall take vengeance upon them, 41 Or We shall show thee that (accomplished) which We have promised them: for verily We shall prevail over them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. Surely you are on the Straight Way. 43 And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our Messengers We sent before thee: Have We appointed, apart from the All-merciful, gods to be served? 45
