THUS, INDEED, have We sent Moses with Our messages unto Pharaoh and his great ones; and he said: "Behold, I am an apostle of the Sustainer of all the worlds!" 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided." 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible man who can hardly make his meaning clear? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 In this way he fooled his people and they obeyed him: they were a rebellious people. 54 But when they continued to challenge Us, We inflicted Our retribution on them, and drowned them all: 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
