Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
