The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
