The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
