The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the setting star, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
