The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
