The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
