The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
