The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
