The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
