The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 And how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 And We sent against them a howling wind in a Day of continuous of ill fortune 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
